Manual Driving Lessons

Pass your test with fewer lessons, saving time and money with Starfish Driving. We achieve our high pass rates by employing only the highest qualified instructors.

You can book your driving lessons-online or by phone choosing a manual or automatic car and can choose a male or female instructor.

You will be taught in new Volkswagen Polo equipped with all the latest safety features including dual controls. The cars will be clean, well maintained and never smoked in.

You can be assured that Starfish Driving courses are always tailored to suit your individual needs and learning pace. We will discuss these with you before putting together an appropriate plan.

How old do I have to be to drive?

Before you can learn to drive on public roads you must be 17 and have a valid provisional licence. You can apply for your provisional licence up to three months before your birthday. You will need to complete a D1 form from the Post Office and send it to the DVLA. If you would like your first lesson on your birthday we recommend that you book early to avoid disappointment.

How many lessons will I need?

The Driving Standards Agency research shows that the current average is 42 hours of tuition, with an additional 22 hours private practice to pass. But remember this is only an average, the majority of our students pass with fewer lessons than average. After your first lesson your instructor will be able to give you a more accurate idea of how many you are likely to need.

How long is a lesson?

We recommend 2 hour lessons. These are more productive than shorter periods because proportionally less time is spent briefing/debriefing and driving to and from locations. This leaves more time for learning and developing skills. Students who receive two hour lessons usually require fewer hours in total.
